Abstract strategy v themed games
An interesting discussion:
I'd heard recently that many board gamers dislike abstract games. Is this really true? I can't fathom the idea; I grew up playing games like Chess and Go and they've always been fun.
I don’t think you can ever accurately say board gamers like or dislike anything. It’s a very diverse group with varying tastes. Yes, there are people who are initially interested in a game because of its theme, but I’ve yet to meet someone who refuses to play a game because it’s abstract.
